ISLAMABAD –The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Sindh government to speed up investigation into illegal recruitments and corruption in the police department.
A three-member bench comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Azmat Saeed headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case. During the hearing, Justice Amir stated that the court would announce the verdict in open court on Thursday as they were waiting for government’s reply in the case on which the inspector general requested to hear his pleas first.
The justice remarked that the court has launched inquiry against the local government’s steps and advised the inspector general to refrain from involving in the matter. Justice Amir said that the court would ask from the authorities to answer why they issued notices to deputy inspectors general Aftab Pathan and Sanaullah Abbasi.
He lashed out at the inspector general, saying “you have made a committee equivalent to court by dispatching notices to the deputy inspectors general.” He said that it’s a serious matter as the Sindh administration has not taken any measurement to stop increasing corruption.
On the occasion, the chief secretary informed the court that the department takes action against the corrupt officials on regular basis but the judge urged to suspend them all. Subsequently, the hearing was adjourned till Thursday.
